Creating a proposal.

Having just entered the third year of my Computer Games Design course at university I now have the task of creating a dissertation (Final Project) ever since the beginning of the second year and being tasked with being a project manager for small teams it got me interested in the project management and pursuing this.

A look at how contemporary project management techniques are used in small team game development. This is the title for my dissertation and this means that I will be looking a the techniques that are being used within the industry and within the university to see how well they work and if it is a safe way to manage small teams.

I will be looking at agile management techniques, this is an iterative, incremental method of management. One of the main frameworks of agile management that I will be looking at is the scrum framework, this is where a team works together to reach the finish line, it allows teams to self-organise, one of the key elements to using this framework is communication within the team.Using scrum methods means that if the stakeholders who you are creating a game or piece of software for can change their mind whenever they want and in using scrum where meetings are held weekly or daily so that the teams are communicating this means that you can address any changes that have to be made and implement them.

I decided to base my dissertation around small team project management as this is what I had done in the second year and this is the way that the university handles the group projects this means that I will be able to use the second and first year group projects to see if the techniques are being used correctly.

I am looking forward to being able to do my dissertation on these techniques having used them myself and being able to see how other groups and people use these techniques to help them with their project management.

This is the first of many blog post, so watch this space.
